The job shown in this photo is the perfect example of neglected maintenance.  Notice the beam that supports the roof? The flat surface on the top of the beam was neglected for years (out of sight, out of mind)  Notice the selection of ladders and scaffolding needed to Do this job. The scaffolding was even used as a platform to place a bottle jack to slightly lift the roof and support it while the end of the dry rotted beam was surgically cut out.The patched section of beam was inserted from the safe comfort of the scaffolding, glued, screwed, bolted caulked, primed and painted.
